Rosemary Forgey, formerly of 421 Jefferson Street died on Tuesday, July 27 at Valley View Health Care Center. Rosemary was born at the Jefferson Street address, the 3rd of five daughters, to Otto H. & Bessie (Arehart) Smith. On May 23, 1942 she married Carl M. Forgey of Ohio at LaPorte, IN. He preceded her in death on Feb 9, 1983. Surviving are four sons, Charles (Liz), John, Phil (Linda) and David (Virginia), all of Elkhart. Also 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, two sisters, Elinor Gerber of Arizona and Olive Shaw of Elkhart. Also a beloved niece, Amy Dunfee, who assisted with her care and was like a daughter to her, as well as many other loved nieces and nephews. Two sisters Lois Brusman and Kathleen Russell Wildey preceded her in death. She was a 1937 graduate of Elkhart High School and attended Purdue and Goshen College before graduating from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She worked at Elkhart General Hospital and for several local doctors. She was a president and active member of Samuel Strong PTA. Rosemary was a 77 year member of 1st Presbyterian Church and an active member of the Women's Association there. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday August 9, 2010 with the Reverend Steve Braden officiating. Memorials if so desired may be made to the 1st Presbyterian Women's Association, 200 E. Beardsley Ave., Elkhart, IN 46514.
